The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is calling all stakeholders across Nigeria's renewable energy sector to indicate their interest in the Development of the Nigeria's Renewable Energy Sector. Interested stakeholders should possess relevant qualifications and experience.

The Nigerian Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is the Implementing Agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria tasked with electrification of rural and unserved communities. Our Mission is to provide access to reliable electric power supply for rural dwellers irrespective of where they live and what they do, in a way that would allow for reasonable return on investment through appropriate tariff that is economically responsive and supportive of the average rural customer.

We invite all stakeholders across Nigeria's renewable energy sector to indicate their interest for:

Title: Call for Participation in the Development of the Nigeria's Renewable Energy Sector

Location: Nigeria

Introduction
  • The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is calling all stakeholders across Nigeria's renewable energy sector to indicate their interest in actively participating in the transformational, developmental and strategic initiatives of the REA.
  • These initiatives are designed to foster ecosystem development, sectoral growth, corporate maturity, address project quality and sustainability challenges, improve operational efficiencies along the renewable energy value chain, and support the attraction of financing to projects in the sector.
Background
  • Nigeria's renewable energy sector is poised for substantial growth, presenting a critical opportunity to expand energy access and support sustainable development. However, the sector encounters various challenges, including access to financing, operational and organizational limitations, and market inefficiencies.
  • It is necessary to strategically tackle these issues and build a more resilient renewable energy ecosystem.
  • This call by the REA seeks to identify active market participants and conduct a preliminary assessment of the Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) value chain and ecosystem in other to design result-oriented market development intervention initiatives in coordination with REA's development partners.
Key Objectives
The primary objectives of this call for participation:
  • Identify active participants across the renewable energy value chain, including developers, RESCos (Renewable Energy Service Companies), EPC contractors, O&M providers, and manufacturers, assemblers or importers of essential components and parts.
  • Expand the database of market participants and stakeholders that will benefit from policies and programs designed for the sector.
  • Gain insight into the current challenges stakeholders face, such as market access issues, financing barriers, regulatory challenges, and operational inefficiencies.
  • Assess company maturity, market readiness, and specific sub-sector involvement (e.g., solar, wind, hydro, biomass, hydrogen) to support REA in developing targeted strategies for sectoral growth.
  • Use the data gathered to guide policy development and strategic interventions that de-risk the sector, foster market efficiency, and encourage ongoing stakeholder engagement.
  • Provide guidance on market development initiatives to enhance participants' internal capabilities, strengthen their project pipelines, and facilitate financial closures for projects, and support related development partner engagements including collaboration with the proposed Distributed Renewable Energy Enhancement Facility (DREEF).
Target Participants
REA invites participation from companies and organizations active in the following areas:
  • Project Developers: Companies focused on the development of renewable energy projects. EPC Contractors: Firms specializing in the engineering, procurement, and construction of renewable energy systems.
  • O&M Providers: Companies offering operational management and maintenance services for renewable energy systems.
  • Full-Service RESCos: Firms that generate and deliver renewable energy services. Manufacturers/Assemblers of Components: Companies locally producing or assembling renewable energy technology and components.
  • Importers/Distributors of Components: Firms importing and distributing renewable energy equipment.
  • Sub-Sector Specializations: Including but not limited to mesh grids, isolated and interconnected mini-grids, stand-alone systems, solar home systems, commercial and industrial energy solutions, battery-as-a-service, e-mobility, clean cooking solutions, productive use equipment, and stand-alone power solutions for telecoms.
Closing of Submissions
Access to the call for participation form will close on Friday; 22nd, November, 2024.
