The Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) was created to facilitate universal service and universal access to information and communication technologies in rural, un-served and under-served areas and communities in Nigeria.

Invitation to a One Day Zonal Workshop on Sustainability of Community Resource Centres (CRC) at the Universal Service Provision Fund

Over the years, the USPF has implemented a number of ICT programmes and projects in various communities across the country in order to encourage the adoption of ICT to improve livelihood in the areas of wealth creation, education, gender mainstreaming, agriculture and health by using the ICT centre. One of such projects is the Community Resource Centre (CRC) formerly know as Community Communication Centre (CCC).

A typical centre is equipped with computers, internet access and other ICT services for use by members of the benefitting community on a shared access basis.

One of the challenges identified during a recently conducted Impact Assessment of the centre is sustainability. To this end, the South South edition of CRC Stakeholders Zonal Workshop is being organized in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom to exchange ideas on best practices to enhance sustainability of the centres.

The Workshop is scheduled as follows:

Venue: Monty Suites, 37 Edet Akpan Avenue Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State

Date:
28th August, 2014

Time:
9.00 a.m

Theme:
ICTs for Community Empowerment Through Knowledge-based Development

The event will leverage on valuable lessons as well as future directions and sustainability models for the CRC. The Workshop will also stimulate community demand for ICTs and propel ownership of the CRC infrastructure, thereby creating avenue for support and buy-in from stakeholders towards improving the socio-economic development of the communities.

Participation at the Workshop is free and open to all stakeholders. For further information about the Workshop, please contact Mr. Isa Usman on Tel. 09-4617452, Mobile 08080418192 or by email: isausman@ncc.gov.ng.
